Most people picture the Smokies as a traffic jam of neon signs and pancake houses. Gatlinburg has plenty of that, and plenty of fun in it. But the best trips usually pair a day of adventure with an evening somewhere truly quiet.
That is why so many guests choose Streams of Heaven Retreat, a log cabin on two private, wooded acres in the Pittman Center area, close to Gatlinburg and the Greenbrier entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Fall asleep to a mountain stream
The first thing guests mention is the sound. A natural stream runs right alongside the cabin, and the water is what you hear from the deck, the hot tub and the fire pit. It is the kind of white noise no app can copy. (It is a natural stream, so in extreme heat and drought the water level drops.)
A place for every kind of evening
- Soak: the private hot tub sits on the covered back deck, surrounded by woods.
- Gather: the fire pit is made for s'mores and stories. We try to provide firewood from October to February, but we cannot guarantee it.
- Play: the game room has a pool table, an arcade machine and a Nintendo Switch, so rainy days are never a problem.
- Cook: a fully stocked kitchen, with a gas grill and a charcoal park-style grill outside (bring your own charcoal).
Four king suites, no shared bedrooms
Every bedroom is a private king suite with its own bathroom, and one has a sleeper sofa. With four suites and a half bath, the cabin sleeps up to 12, so two or three families or couples can travel together and still have real privacy. Pets are welcome too.
Day trips from your front door
Head into the national park for hiking and waterfalls, drive the scenic roads, or take a day in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge for shopping and attractions. Then come home to quiet. Read more in our guides to the best hikes in the Smokies and what to know about dogs in the Smokies.
